FAQ
Straight answers.
The questions we get asked most, answered the way we'd answer them on site.
What areas do you service?
Our bread and butter is the Waikato and Bay of Plenty, and we work across the wider Golden Triangle. We're based in Hamilton. For the right project we'll travel further; recent work has taken us as far as Auckland and Taupo.
What services do you provide?
The full civil scope: demolition, earthworks, drainage and bulk cartage, plus supporting services like subdivision works, retaining, concrete, bobcat work, equipment transport and site clean-ups. One contract can cover the lot.
What size jobs do you take on?
We're set up for commercial and development-scale work: subdivisions, commercial builds, multi-unit developments and infrastructure. For small one-off residential jobs, like a single driveway, a smaller local operator will usually serve you better and cost you less, and we're happy to point you in the right direction.
What is GPS machine control, and why should I care?
The site plan is loaded into the digger, and the operator sees exact levels and depth live in the cab, rather than relying on pegs, lasers and guesswork. For you it means no over-digging (a real saving on jobs priced by cubic volume), faster work, and photo proof of levels for engineer inspections. It's on every Rhodes machine, on every job.
Do you do your own measure?
On most tenders, yes. We prepare our own schedule of quantities so the numbers are ours and we stand behind them. If a client provides the measure instead, we'll price to it, but we'll always tell you if we think something in it deserves a second look.
What do you provide at tender stage?
More than a number. On larger jobs we submit a full methodology with the price: how the scope will run, what's included and how long each stage takes. It helps you compare tenders honestly and makes programming easier once the job is awarded.
What gear do you run?
A modern Hitachi digger fleet from 1.7 to 21 tonne, all with GPS machine control, plus two skid steers, a grader, four Hino truck-and-trailer units and a Kenworth transporter. The fleet is maintained in our own workshop.
Do you work under head contractors?
All the time. Much of our work is delivered under commercial head contractors, and we're used to their programmes, their paperwork and their standards. We also work directly for developers and private clients on development-scale projects.
Can you handle demolition and earthworks as one contract?
Yes, and it's the way we prefer to work. Demolition, earthworks, drainage and cartage under one contract means one crew, one programme and one point of accountability, with no gaps between contractors.
How do I get a price?
Call 027 356 8170 or email info@rhodesplant.co.nz with whatever you have: plans, a site address, a rough scope. The more we get, the sharper the price. If it helps, we'll come and walk the site with you first.
